Choosing a foundation and other face makeup products can be daunting. There is an overload of options, and most of the time it feels impossible to know where to start. Thankfully, we’re here to make it easier by teaching you how to find and apply the right L’Oréal Paris True Match™ products for you. Watch the video above for your crash course in cosmetics color matching, then read below for more details.
How to Find Your Perfect Foundation Shade
Finding your foundation match may normally be a total struggle, but that doesn’t have to be the case. The L’Oréal Paris True Match™ line offers coordinating products in 33 shades, with perfect matches across the board. That means your foundation, concealer, face powder, and blush are all definitely going to coordinate—no tricky guesswork necessary to make sure all your products work together.
To select your specific shade, first you’ll need to assess your skin tone, which can range from fair to deep.
If you have a fair skin tone…you’ve probably been described as having porcelain skin a time or two in your life.
If you have a light skin tone…you’re still pale—just not quite as much as your fair friends.
If you have a medium skin tone…you’re caught in the middle! Your skin tone isn’t super-dark or super-light but somewhere in between.
If you have a deep skin tone…your complexion is dark.
When you’re sure of your skin tone, move on to determining your undertone. Flip your wrist over and start staring at your veins. What color are they? If your veins appear blue or purple, you’re cool-toned, while green veins indicate warm-toned skin. If you’re not sure, you very well might be neutral. Once you know both your skin tone and undertone, finding foundation—and other products—should be no problem.
How to Apply a Full Face of True Match™
Once you have your products picked, here’s how to use them.
Step 1: Prime. Rumors about primer being an inessential item may run rampant, but there’s no truth there. Before diving into any makeup look, you’ll want to smooth a skin-perfecting primer onto your skin. A thin layer can make all the difference in how your makeup lasts and looks—smoothing lines, hiding pores, and banishing imperfections. Sounds like a must-have to us.
Step 2: Apply foundation. Taking your L’Oréal Paris True Match™ Superblendable Makeup, pour a small amount onto a cosmetic wedge or makeup blender . Use the sponge to blend and buff your foundation in, working from the center of your face, outwards.
Step 3: Conceal. Apply your L’Oréal Paris True Match™ Concealer to blemishes and dark under-eye circles for extra coverage, blending out with your fingers.
Step 4: Set with powder. If you want your look to stay in place, (who doesn’t?) you should set foundation and concealer with a powder. Pat your L’Oréal Paris True Match™ Powder over your face.
Step 5. Add blush. It’s just not right for a face to be all one color. Bring back a natural-looking flush with the blush shade that suits your skin tone. Start dusting your L’Oréal Paris True Match™ Blush onto the center of your cheeks, moving the brush back towards your ear. For a finishing touch, sweep blush across your nose, chin, and forehead for a contouring effect.
