5 TIPS FOR FINDING YOUR FOUNDATION MATCH

Now that you’ve got the lowdown on the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro Glow Foundation shades, you’re probably wondering if you need to know anything else in order to find the shade that best matches your complexion. Below, we’ve compiled a list of five tips that will come in handy when looking for your next foundation buy.

TIP #1: CONSIDER YOUR UNDERTONES

First things first, you’ll want to keep your undertones in mind! Not sure what your undertones are? It’s simple. Flip your wrist and look at your veins. If they’re green, you have warm undertones. If they’re blue or purple, you have cool undertones. If you can’t determine if they’re green, blue, or purple, you have neutral undertones. Easy, right?

TIP #2: WORK WITH WHAT YOU’VE GOT

One of the easiest ways to find your foundation match is to go off of the foundation you’re currently using. If you’re looking to try a new foundation formula but have an old foundation that perfectly matches your skin tone, bring it with you to compare shades. (You can do this with a concealer, too!)

Editor’s note: You can also use L’Oréal’s Make the Switch tool to find comparable shades!

TIP #3: USE A TESTER

Many makeup stores offer testers so you can swatch a foundation and determine how it looks against your skin. If you do this, swatch on your neck rather than the back of your hand. This will be the area of skin that you want your foundation to seamlessly blend into. Your hand or arm can often differ from your complexion in color, so they’re probably not the best places to swatch!

TIP #4: KEEP THE LIGHTING IN MIND

Lighting is everything! If you do get the opportunity to swatch a foundation before purchasing, try and look at the swatch in natural light. Fluorescent lights can affect how a color appears on your skin, so even if a foundation shade appears as if it’s your perfect match, your best bet is to look at it in natural lighting before committing.

TIP #5: AND THE TIME OF YEAR

Is it springtime but almost summer? Fall transitioning to winter? The time of year can play a role in your skin tone as you develop a tan or your tan starts to fade. If you’re in-between seasons (and skin tones), you may want to wait a little before purchasing a foundation, as your perfect shade will likely change.
