When you don’t have a whole lot of time to do your makeup before running out the door in the morning, applying a coat of liquid eyeliner can pull your entire look together without requiring a whole lot of effort. But on those days that you do have a few extra minutes to spare, why not take things up a notch by creating a layered eyeliner look? Yep, using multiple liquid eyeliners to create one cohesive look is the latest makeup trend making the rounds—and we have to say, we’re totally loving it.
On its own, a liquid eyeliner can be used to create a winged cat eye that’s oh-so-classic. But when paired with other eyeliner hues, you can amp up the effect for, dare we say, a seriously eye-catching look. Below, we’re sharing a tutorial for a black and blue layered eyeliner look that’s simply stunning. Wear it the next time you plan a night out on the town! (Here’s how to apply eyeliner for a fierce look.)
You guessed it: This eye makeup look is all about layering different eyeliner across your lids. Before picking up your eyeliners, prep your lids by applying an eye makeup primer, as this can help create a smooth canvas to work on as well as help keep your eye makeup in place. If you don’t have an eye makeup primer on hand, that’s OK. You can dab on a little bit of foundation or concealer in a pinch. Try the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation or L’Oréal Paris Infallible Total Cover Concealing and Contour Kit.
Starting at the inner corner of your eye, start drawing a line with the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Paints Eyeliner in Black Party. The line should get thicker as you work your way towards the outer corner of your eye. Once you reach that spot, extend the line up at an angle, going just past the end of your brow.
After you complete your wing, you’ll now want to create an outline before filling in the color. Starting beneath your inner corner (about one-third of the way in), draw a thin line that extends towards your nose, then outline your upper lid until the line meets your wing at the outer corner of your eye.
It’s coloring time! Use your liquid eyeliner shade of choice to fill in the empty space you created on your upper lid. We’re fans of a bright blue—so consider trying the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Paints Eyeliner in Intrepid Teal. This look would also look amazing with white, green, pink, and the list goes on! Experiment with different shades depending on your mood or outfit.
Made a mistake? Hey, they happen! That doesn’t mean you have to completely start over, though. Just dip a cotton swab into micellar water or makeup remover and wipe away any eyeliner mistakes.
No statement eye look—including layered eyeliner—is complete without a coat of mascara. So, top things off by applying the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara. Congrats: Your layered eyeliner look is now complete!
All good things come to an end. At the end of the day, you’ll need to remove your liquid eyeliner. Reach for a no-rinse cleansing option, like micellar water, to get the job done. Just saturate a cotton pad with the L’Oréal Paris Micellar Cleansing Water Complete Cleanser Waterproof – All Skin Types, hold the pad over closed eyes for a few seconds, then wipe.
