6 Professional-Looking Hairstyles That Aren't Boring 6 Professional-Looking Hairstyles That Aren't Boring 6 Professional-Looking Hairstyles That Aren't Boring

Tired of wearing your hair straight, curly, or on top of your head in a classic messy bun for your 9-5? We feel you. But unless you’re in a creative work environment, you might feel like you can’t get away with having much fun with your hair. Well, we’re here to tell you otherwise! With our favorite professional-looking, office-approved hairstyles, it’s time to switch things up. Hey—you might even discover a new signature look!

1. Side Braided Bun

Tired of your go-to messy bun? This French braided number allows you to pull your hair out of your face while still adding style.

What you’ll need:

Texturizing spray

Brush

Mini clear elastic

Bobby pins

L'Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray Strong Hold

Get the look by following these simple steps:

Step 1: Start with texturizing spray. When it comes to braids, day old hair tends to work best Add a touch more texture to your mane by spritzing on a texturizing spray.

Step 2: Detangle and part your hair. Run a brush through your hair to help get rid of any tangles before creating a deep side part.

Step 3: Weave your French braid. Starting on the side of your part that has more hair, begin weaving over-under in a French fashion until you reach the nape of your neck.

Step 4: Combine all your hair. Brush the untouched side of hair back towards the nape of your neck and braid all your hair together over one shoulder. Secure the ends with a mini clear elastic.

Step 5: Twist your bun. Starting at the nape of your neck, twist your braid around itself to create your bun. Once it looks just right, grab a few bobby pins and secure it in place. Give your style quick spritz of strong-hold hairspray. Try the L'Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray Strong Hold.

2. Fishtail Milkmaid Braid

Milkmaid braids are gorgeous on their own, so it makes sense that when they’re created with fishtail braids they’re that much prettier.

What you’ll need:

L'Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle AIR DRY IT Wave Swept Spray

Mini clear elastics

Get the look by following these simple steps:

Step 1: Start with wave spray. When your hair is wet, spray it with the L'Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle AIR DRY IT Wave Swept Spray, then wait for your hair to dry.

Step 2: Make a center part. Pretty self-explanatory, right?

Step 3: Create two pigtails. With the two sides of your hair perfectly divided, use a clear mini elastic to tie each pigtail off just below your ear.

Step 4: Start fishtail braiding. Working with one pigtail at a time, divide your hair into two sections and take a small piece of hair from the left side and add it to the right. Then, take a small piece from the right side and add it to the left. Continue this process until you reach the ends, at which point you’ll tie it off with another clear mini elastic.

Step 5: Create your milkmaid fishtail braid. All you have to do it pull your pigtails up and pin them in place along the crown of your head, hiding the ends underneath each other. Yes, really—it’s that easy!

3. Half-Up Braided Top Knot

A top knot is one of our favorite hairstyles to rock on lazy days—but you can kick things up a notch for a day at the office by braiding your bun.

What you’ll need:

L'Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle AIR DRY IT Wave Swept Spray

Mini clear elastic

Bobby pins

Get the look by following these simple steps:

Step 1: Start with wave spray. Spritz your hair with the L'Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle AIR DRY IT Wave Swept Spray let it air dry to create a slightly lived-in look.

Step 2: Part your hair down the middle. You know the drill.

Step 3: Create your braids. To give volume and texture to the top of your head, create a French braid on both sides of your center part. Starting with a very small section of hair at your hairline, braid all the way back to your crown. Instead of continuing your braids to the ends of your hair, use a clear mini elastic to tie both braids together, then braid that join section down to the ends.

Step 4: Create your bun. With your braid in hand, spin it around itself at the crown of your head to create your woven bun. Once it looks centered, pin it in place and you can go about the rest of your beauty routine.

4. Braided Low Pigtail Buns

We love space buns as much as the next girl, but sometime two high buns are a little too out there for a work environment. This refined low braided version is just as fun, yet a tad more profesh.

What you’ll need:

L'Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle AIR DRY IT Undone Style Cream

Rat tail comb

Hair ties

Bobby pins

Get the look by following these simple steps:

Step 1: Use styling cream. Adding a dollop or two of the L'Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle AIR DRY IT Undone Style Cream to wet hair, then let your strands air dry.

Step 2: Create two pigtails. Drag a rat tail comb down the center of your head and tie off each side to create the base of your bunned look. Make sure to smooth out your hair so that the outside of the woven sections of your buns has a super-sleek appearance.

Step 3: Braid your pigtails. Three strands, over-under—you got this.

Step 4: Shape your buns. Twist each of your braids around itself and pin your buns in place. Voila! Fashionable, fun, and totally office-approved!

5. Pretzel Bun

Who doesn’t love a good pretzel? We have to say, the end look is certainly appealing.

What you’ll need:

L'Oréal Paris EverSleek Keratin Caring Shampoo

L'Oréal Paris EverSleek Keratin Caring Conditioner

L'Oréal Paris Hair Expert Extraordinary Oil Lustrous Oil Serum

Blow-dryer

Boar bristle brush

Hair tie

Mini clear elastic

Get the look by following these simple steps:

Step 1: Start with freshly washed hair. Since this look is a tad more polished-looking, you’ll want to start with clean hair. So, hop in the shower and give your hair some lovin’ with a system of shampoo and conditioner, like the L'Oréal Paris EverSleek Keratin Caring Shampoo and the L'Oréal Paris EverSleek Keratin Caring Conditioner.

Step 2: Apply some serum. After hopping out of the shower and towel-drying your hair, pump a dime-sized amount of the L'Oréal Paris Hair Expert Extraordinary Oil Lustrous Oil Serum into damp strands and comb it through.

Step 3: Blow-dry your hair. Once your hair is about 85 percent dry, grab your blow-dryer and a boar bristle rush to style until dry.

Step 4: Smooth hair into a low side pony. Using your boar bristle brush, gather all of your dry hair into a low ponytail with a hair tie, smoothing it as you go.

Step 5: Create a rope braid. Split your ponytail into two sections and twist each to the ends. Then, take the two separate sections and twist them around each other to create your rope. Secure it with a clear mini elastic.

Step 6: Create your bun. Loosely wrap your rope braid around itself to create a romantic low updo that looks like the twists and turns of a delicious pretzel. Bon appetit…for your hair!

6. Pull Through Braided Pony

Not the best braider on the block? No worries! Luckily for us, there are hacks out there that make it seem like you’re a fab braider.

L'Oréal Paris EverCreme Deep Nourish Shampoo

L'Oréal Paris EverCreme Deep Nourish Conditioner

L'Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle BOOST IT Blow Out Heat Spray

Boar bristle brush

Hair-colored hair tie

Mini clear elastics

Rat tail comb

L'Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle LOCK IT Bold Control Hairspray

Get the look by following these simple steps:

Step 1: Start with clean hair. Try the L'Oréal Paris EverCreme Deep Nourish Shampoo and L'Oréal Paris EverCreme Deep Nourish Conditioner.

Step 2: Blow-dry your hair. Add a few spritzes of the L'Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle BOOST IT Blow Out Heat Spray to damp tresses and dry completely.

Step 3: Brush your hair into a high ponytail. Using a boar bristle brush, smooth all of your hair up into a high ponytail secured with a hair-colored elastic.

Step 4: Split your ponytail into two equal sections. You want there to be a top and bottom half.

Step 5: Segment the top half. Using a clear mini elastic, tie off about an inch and a half of the top section of your hair below your main ponytail hair tie.

Step 6: Pull through. Using a rat tail comb, poke a hole through your top section to pull the bottom section through the underside of the pony. Tie it off with a mini clear elastic below the first tied off section.

Step 7: Repeat until you reach the end. You’re almost there!

Step 8: Add volume to your pony. Gently pull apart each section of your fake braid to give the appearance of thicker-looking hair.

Step 9: Finish with hairspray. Give your hair a solid allover spray with the L'Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle LOCK IT Bold Control Hairspray.
