Get the look by following these simple steps:
After you hop out of the shower, towel-dry your hair and use a wide-tooth comb to gently comb out any knots and tangles before parting it down the middle.
Editor’s tip: Remember that your hair is most fragile when it’s wet, so be sure to use extra care when combing out tangles and parting to avoid any breakage and unnecessary damage.
Once you finish detangling your hair, spritz your strands with wave-enhancing hair spray. Start by spraying the top most layer of your hair, focusing the majority of the hair spray on your mid-lengths and ends. Next, flip your head and spray the underside of your hair to give your mane a fully textured look and feel. Once you finishing spraying your whole head, use your fingers to gently scrunch your strands to help enhance the shape of your beachy waves. To do so, use a wringing approach, as opposed to an upward squeezing motion. This way you won’t stress your ends, which can lead to drawing attention to any split ends.
Grab a small section of hair on one side of your hair an inch or two down from your part. Twist this section of hair back towards the crown of your head and pin it in place on the opposite side of your crown as if you’re wrapping it around your head without going fully around to the other side. Before pinning your twist in place, hold it with one hand and use your other hand to gently fluff it up for a more whimsical feel. Create three more twists so that you have two twists on each side of your head. When pinning your twists in place, be sure to overlap them to create a tiered, woven effect.
To do this, split your remaining hair into two equal sections, a top and a bottom. Then split the bottom section into two equal side-by-side sections so that you have three sections altogether.
Split each bottom section into three strands and weave a traditional braid with each, placing a hair ring into each outside stitch of the braids. To do so, thread the section of hair you’re working with through the ring and continue with your braiding sequence. Once you reach the ends of your braids, tie them each off with a clear elastic and gently fluff them up to make them look more voluminous.
Split the remaining top section into two equal sections to create a fishtail braid. Once you reach the ends of your fishtail braid, secure it with a clear elastic before gently tugging at each weave to create a more voluminous braid.
Once you finish weaving your three separate braids, it’s time to layer them to bring your boho look to life. First, combine your two three-strand braids together at the ends with a clear elastic, making sure that the edges lined with rings are on the outside of each side of the connected braid—this way they’ll serve as a frame for your fishtail. Next, layer the fishtail braid directly down the middle of the two traditional braids to cover up that small gap of space. Once everything looks layered just right, secure your braids together with a few bobby pins through the underside of your braids. Once everything pinned in place, combine all three braids at the bottom with a clear elastic. Take a small section of hair from the ends to wrap around the elastic for a more natural-looking finish.
At this point you’re probably looking in the mirror wondering how you were capable of creating such a beautiful braid. Isn’t it wonderful when hairstyle trends are actually easy to achieve? We think so! To help your head-turning hair ring look last, finish your style with an allover spritz of hair spray for hold and added shine.
