How to Add Sequins to Your Hair for an On-Trend Look How to Add Sequins to Your Hair for an On-Trend Look How to Add Sequins to Your Hair for an On-Trend Look

Forget about hair tattoos—this year it’s all about adding sequins to the mix when it comes to your hair. Take one scroll through your social media feeds or walk through a music festival and you’ll see exactly what we’re talking about. Where bedazzled parts once reigned supreme, nowadays it’s all about adding sequins and stickers to your strands for a one-of-a-kind update to your everyday hairstyle. And now is as good a time as any to get in on the latest buzzy hairstyle trend. If you’re game, head to your local craft store and pick up a pack of sequins that you can use to accessorize. From there, just follow the instructions below. Sequin hair, here you come!

Step 1: Wash Your Hair

Sure, you don’t have to have perfectly clean hair to rock this look, but if you want your sequins to stick in place without any oily buildup getting in the way, then it’s a good idea to hop in the shower before beginning this style. Try the L’Oréal Paris EverPure Volume Shampoo and the L’Oréal Paris EverPure Volume Conditioner to help add body to your hair. No time to wash? Spray on a little bit of the L’Oréal Paris Hair Expert Extraordinary Clay Dry Shampoo to roots to help absorb oil and refresh your strands, then brush through to your ends.

Step 2: Spritz on a Heat Protectnant

After you’ve gently towel-dried your hair, spray it from roots to ends with a heat protectant, like the L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle BOOST IT Blow Out Heatspray, before blasting your strands with warm air until it’s fully dried. For the last minute of drying, press the cool button on your blow-dryer to help seal your blowout.

Step 3: Style Your Hair However You’d Like

Braids? Curls? Super-straight locks? Whatever style you want to wear for the day, bring it to life to serve as the base of your sequin hair look. If you’re having trouble deciding which hairstyle to pair with the sequin hair look, try combining it with a boho layered braid for the ultimate cool-girl look.

Here’s how to do a boho layered braid: Start by detangling your hair, then part it however you’d like. Next, twist a small section of hair on each side of your head and pin it to the opposite side and repeat. After you’ve successfully twisted and pinned two twists, divide your remaining hair into three sections: a top and two bottoms. Fishtail braid each of the braids before tying them off with clear mini elastics. Fluff up the bottom two braids by gently pulling at each stitch, working your way from the ends up to the base. Once your bottom braids are perfectly fluffed, pin them together with a bobby pin on the underside of the braids where the two sides come together. Next, pin the un-fluffed top braid on top of the bottom two braids and tie all three ends together. Pull out a few face-framing strands and you’re ready to add sequins.

Step 4: Add Sequins

Now it’s time to have some fun! Wherever you want sequins to stick out on your mane, place a teeny-tiny dollop of hair gel, like the L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle LOCK IT Extreme Style Gel , and top it off with your sequins of choice. Make sure to apply your sequins right away so that the gel doesn’t dry.

Step 5: Set Your Look

Plug your blow-dryer back in so that you can lightly dry each sequin on the lowest heat seating (you don’t want them to blow away, after all!). Once everything is dry, spritz on a hairspray, like the L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle LOCK IT Bold Control Hairspray. Your sequined look is officially complete!
