It’s that wonderful time of year: Work days are cut short to make time for an office holiday party filled with sweet treats and good cheer. We don’t know about you, but we think hours less of spreadsheets calls for a pretty new hairstyle to celebrate. While a bouncy blowout is always in fashion for these sorts of soirees, we think your holiday hairstyle deserves a bit more detail. To give you an idea of what we have in mind, ahead we share five of our favorite hairstyles to wear to your office holiday party. Whether you like updos, braids, or pretty ponytails, we’ve got a style for you, along with product recommendations, including shampoo, conditioner, and hair spray, to create each one.
Sure, ponytails on their own are great, but ponytails with a little pizazz are even better. Agree? Take a peek at the ponytail hairstyle below to look your best at your holiday office party.
What you’ll need:
L’Oréal Paris EverPure Frizz-Defy Shampoo
L’Oréal Paris EverPure Frizz-Defy Conditioner
L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle SLEEK IT Iron Straight Heatspray
L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle LOCK IT Weather Control Hairspray
Get the look by following these simple steps:
Step 1: Start with clean hair. The perfect knotted ponytail starts with clean hair. Lather and rinse your hair with shampoo and conditioner in the shower before towel-drying it and moving on to the next step.
Step 2: Apply heat protectant. Once your hair has dried, spray it with a heat protectant before curling it to add loose waves to your look.
Step 3: Curl hair. Wrap 1-inch sections of hair around the barrel of your curling iron to give your hair some body so that your ponytail will look bouncy and feminine.
Step 4: Pull hair into a ponytail. But leave out a small section of hair on the underside of your pony near the nape of your neck.
Step 5: Split the remaining section of hair in two. Spray each section hair spray to help smooth out any flyaways.
Step 6: Lace each side through the top of your ponytail. Starting on one side, poke your finger through the section of hair just above your clear elastic and lace your hair through to the opposite side. Repeat this process so that bottom sections are now laced over each other, as well as over top the ponytail, in an X shape.
Step 7: Combine all sections into one ponytail. Simply pull all of the hair together and tie it off with a clear elastic. To make sure that your sections of laced pony stay in place, slip in a bobby pin or two.
Fancy a fishtail braid? Who wouldn’t? The extra-delicate weave takes patience and time that you might not have time to spare any old day of the week, but for the holidays, anything is possible. To learn how to perfect the boho braid, read through the hairstyle tutorial below.

Step 1: Add texture. While your hair is damp, spritz it with wave spray and scrunch it with your fingers to create natural-looking texture. While you can weave a fishtail without added texture, we find that it gives each tiny weave a bit more grip, not to mention a lot more boho chic style.
Step 2: Pull your hair around one side of your head. Swoop it over the shoulder of your choice before moving on to the next step.
Step 3: Divide hair into two sections. Make them even and you’re good to go.
Step 4: Cross sections to create your fishtail weave. Start with one half of your hair to create the first weave of your fishtail braid. Grab a small section of hair from the outside of that section and cross it over to the other section of hair. Repeat the same process back and forth between sides until you reach your ends. If your hair is super-thick, you may want to gently pull at your fishtail braid as you go to give it a voluminous look along the way, instead of waiting until the end.
Step 5: Secure with a clear elastic. And just like that you’ve perfected the side fishtail braid. If you want to give it an extra ethereal finish, pull out a few face-framing strands around your ears. Gorgeous!
Updos reign supreme when it comes to fancier hair styles. While your office holiday party may not be the fanciest event, it never hurts to style your hair into a pretty new ‘do. To perfect the hairstyle, read the tutorial below.
Step 1: Divide your hair into three sections. Make sure that the front two sections are small, while the back section includes the majority of your hair.
Step 2: Twist your back section into a ballerina bun. Secure it with bobby pins or a clear elastic before gently pulling it apart to create a fuller-looking bun.
Step 3: Divide each front section into two sections. Twist each of these sections in one direction and then twist them together in the opposite direction to create a rope braid. Fluff up each rope section.
Step 4: Secure your twisted rope braids. Pull each fluffed-up section behind your head, wrapping them around your bun before pinning them in place.
Step 5: Finish with hair spray. A spritz here and a spritz there and you’ll be ready to wow at your office holiday party.
Looking to master a new braiding technique? While we’re sure you’ve seen a waterfall braid scrolling through your social feeds, you might think it’s too difficult to recreate the woven look yourself. But that’s not actually the case! To walk you through the trendy hairstyle, follow the simple steps below.

Rat tail comb
Step 1: Start with clean, smooth strands. To help give your strands a smooth finish, start in the shower with a smoothing shampoo and conditioner. After hopping out of the shower and towel-drying your hair, apply a hair serum to add some shine.
Step 2: Create a side part. Use the tail end of your rat tail comb to divide your hair into a crisp deep side part.
Step 3: Start at your hairline on the larger side of your part. Grab three equal pieces of hair along your hairline to start a French braid. Start by crossing the section of hair closest to your part over the middle piece. Leave a space between this crossover weave and drop the remaining section of hair through it.
Step 4: Add more hair. This section will be your new top section, so just weave it over the middle and drop the remaining section through.
Step 5: Repeat. Keep adding more hair and dropping sections through until you read the crown of your head.
Step 6: Pin your waterfall braid in place. To conceal the bobby pins, pick up a section of hair at the crown of your head, pin your braid there and drop your hair over.
Ready to look like a beauty blogger in the middle of your office holiday party? There’s just about nothing we love more than extra-thick braids that radiate nonchalance and natural beauty all at once. To get the look, follow the hairstyle tutorial below.
Clear mini elastic
L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle LOCK IT Fine Control Hairspray
Get the look by following these simple steps:
Step 1: Split your hair into three sections along your part. You know the drill.
Step 2: Braid the strand closest to your part beneath the middle strand. As you’ll soon notice, the trick to creating Dutch braids lies within the inverted technique.
Step 3: Braid the strand closest to your ear beneath the new middle strand. See?
Step 4: Add more hair to each outer section of your braid. New stitch? New hair.
Step 5: Continue the process. If you want to create a jumbo Dutch braid to accent free-flowing strands, stop adding new sections of hair once you reach the crown of your head and just continue a traditional three-strand weave to the ends. If you want to incorporate all of your hair, make sure to incorporate larger and larger sections of hair to transform your Dutch braid into a side-swept Dutch pony.
Step 6: Fluff it up. Beauty bloggers’ braids look so stunning because they’re pros at pancaking (a.k.a. fluffing). To fluff your braid, start at the bottom and work your way to the top as you gently tug at each strand of your braid to make it look more voluminous and lived-in.
Step 7: Finish with hair spray. Since your braid has been loosened, it’s a good idea to give it a little extra help to maintain its shape. That’s where hair spray comes in. Spritz to your heart’s desire and you’re good to go.
