When it comes to your hairstyling routine, who wants to spend time blow-drying their hair and juggling a round brush and then have to reach for yet another heat tool? Not only can this add extra time to your routine, but it also exposes your strands to more heat damage. If you’ve ever wondered how to dry and style your hair simultaneously, the latest hot tool craze may be just what you’ve been looking for—we’re talking about the blow-dryer brush! Yup, a round brush blow-dryer is the secret to achieving a stunning blowout at home in one step. No need to go through two rounds of heat styling or get an arm workout from balancing your blow-dryer and a hair brush at the same time. Want to learn what all the buzz is about? Below, we’re sharing everything you need to know about using a blowout brush.
Can’t quite picture what a blowout brush is? Imagine a big round brush, just like your stylist uses to blowout your hair. The only difference is that this brush is electric, and when you turn it on, hot air blows out. This means as you pull the brush through your damp hair, it dries your strands. Ingenious, right?
If you’ve never managed to master at-home blowouts, now’s your chance. A round blow-dryer brush can turn anyone into a hair-drying pro, especially if you follow this tutorial.

While you can use a blow-dryer brush on wet hair, you’ll get the best results if you give your hair some time to dry. Don’t let it dry fully, though! Working with hair that is damp instead of soaking wet is ideal.
As with any time you style your hair with hot tools, you’ll want to prep your strands with a heat protectant. Spritz one throughout your mane, then brush your hair to distribute the product and get rid of any tangles.
Next, you’ll want to section your hair using claw clips. The number of sections will depend on how much hair you have. For hair of average thickness, part your hair from ear to ear, creating a top and bottom section. Clip the top section out of the way. Roughly part the bottom section down the middle, bringing each side in front of your shoulders. You’ll work on each side separately.
It’s time to grab your blowout brush! Turn it on, then take a section of hair that’s one to two inches thick. Place the brush at your ends and roll the brush up the length of your hair until the barrel is at your roots, wrapping the hair around the brush in the process.
Wait 10 to 20 seconds, then slowly wind the brush downward, unraveling your hair in the process. When your hair is released, you’ll be left with silky, frizz-free strands with a slight curl at the ends. Yup—it’s that easy.
Continue to repeat the wrapping and releasing process throughout the rest of the bottom half of your hair. Once you finish, release the top section and split it in half, continuing the blowout process on each side.
Now that you’ve successfully given yourself a DIY blowout, it’s time to add any finishing touches! Use your blow-dryer brush to tweak any areas that could use some extra bounce. When you’re happy with the results, apply a small amount of hair serum throughout your mane for a sleek finish.
To take your blown-out locks to new heights (literally), use a volume spray on your roots for extra lift.
There’s only one thing left to do—spritz on some hair spray! Set your style by misting a high-shine formula over your strands.
And there you have it; you’re officially a blow-dryer brush pro! Want to continue to master how to use the latest hair tools? Next, learn How to Use a Hair Straightening Brush.
