Braided Hairstyle Update: 2 New Ways to Wear a Side Braid Braided Hairstyle Update: 2 New Ways to Wear a Side Braid Braided Hairstyle Update: 2 New Ways to Wear a Side Braid

Side braids are simple: You pull your hair to the side, weave a plait, and you’re good to go. While these braids are especially fitting during the carefree summer months, you can take the style to the next level to make an eye-catching fashion statement no matter what time of year it is. Below, we’re sharing two braided hairstyle tutorials that put a twist on the classic side braid.

Braided Hairstyle Tutorial #1: Pull-Through Side Braid

Rushed for time? This super simple pull-through side braid doesn’t require any fancy braiding skills.

What you’ll need:

L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray Strong Hold

Brush

Clear elastics

Get the look by following these simple steps:

Step 1: Start with hairspray. To help give your hair a bit more grip, spray your tresses with the L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray Strong Hold.

Step 2: Detangle your hair. After spraying your hair with hairspray, run your brush through it to remove any tangles so that your pull-through braid will look nice and neat when it’s completed. While you’re brushing your hair, create a side part and pull all of your hair over to one shoulder.

Step 3: Create a mini ponytail. Tie a small section of hair on the larger side of your part with a clear elastic. You want this tied-off section to be closest to your hairline, as it will serve as the starting point of your braid.

Step 4: Tie off your first bubble. To do this, tie another elastic about an inch below the first to create a bubble. Split the bubble in half so that you can stick your finger through it.

Step 5: Pull through. Pull a section of hair through the hole and tie it off with a clear elastic in order to create a new bubble.

Step 6: Create another bubble. Pull another section of hair, as well as the hair from the first bubble through this new loop.

Step 7: Repeat this process all the way to the ends. Take a break half way so that you can fluff up your pull-through braid. If you wait to do this until the end, it will be too tight from all the elastics. Once you reach the ends, secure them with an elastic, spray your whole side braid with hairspray, and show off your pretty new look!

Braided Hairstyle Tutorial #2: Twisted Fishtail Side Braid

Take one scroll through your social media feeds and we have a feeling you’ll have major hair envy over the beautiful boho braids on display. Good news: They’re not as difficult to create as they look. Fishtails look especially gorgeous—and are actually pretty simple.

What you’ll need:

L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle LOCK IT Bold Control Hairspray

Clear elastics

Get the look by following these simple steps:

Step 1: Create a side part. Since boho looks are all about looking lived-in, feel free to use your hands for an imperfectly perfect part.

Step 2: Weave Dutch braids on both side of your part. Starting at your hairline, weave Dutch braids back towards the crown of your head. Stop incorporating new hair just behind your ear and braid each section to the ends. Once you reach the ends, piece each braid apart to fluff it up and give it that coveted boho flair. Spray each braid with the L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle LOCK IT Bold Control Hairspray to keep it from unraveling.

Step 3: Split your remaining hair into two sections. Make a top and a bottom section.

Step 4: Create a fishtail with the top section of hair. Fluff it up once you reach the ends and secure it with a clear elastic.

Step 5: Fishtail the bottom section of hair, too. Start your braid out super tight with small strands weaving back and forth. Once you’ve gone a couple inches down, switch to a really loose, large stranded fishtail. Pull it apart a lot before tying it off with a hair tie. Don’t forget to spray it with hairspray for extra hold.

Step 6: Twist your braids around each other over one shoulder. Secure the ends with a clear elastic.

Step 7: Pin your braids together. To make sure that your braids don’t twist apart despite being tied together, secure them together with a couple bobby pins through the underside of your braid.

Step 8: Pin your two front braids in place behind the back of your head. Tuck the ends underneath the base of your side braid.

Step 9: Pull out face framing strands. Gently tug a few strands out around your hairline and in front of your ears for added lived-in style to your boho look.

Step 10: Finish with another spritz of hairspray! Show. It. Off. Girl!
