Dyeing your own hair can seem like a major undertaking, but it doesn’t have to be. Seriously! If you follow a few simple steps, it can be surprisingly easy. We’re breaking down how to use the L’Oréal Paris Excellence Creme in just six steps, below. You don’t have to visit the salon to get a fresh new hair color. Step 1: Select Your Shade
Choosing a new hair color can be a serious challenge, especially when options abound. With more than 35 colors to pick from, L’Oréal Paris Excellence Creme certainly has you covered. Whether you’re thinking of a ravishing red or an icy blonde, there’s a hue for you. To find your perfect shade, try looking at celebrities with similar skin tone as you. If a color suits them, it probably can do the same for you! (Find your skin tone and undertone with a little help from this article.) Keep in mind that if you’re going lighter—like from brown to blonde—bleaching will be required. And the darker your base shade, the more work (and bleach) may be required to achieve your desired result.
Step 2: Change Your Color
It’s time to dye! Now that you have your color picked out, break out the boxed dye. In your L’Oréal Paris Excellence Creme box, you’ll find a developer creme, hair color, conditioner, and hair serum. To use, carefully follow the instructions provided in the packaging.
Step 3: Switch Up Your Hair Care Routine
One you’ve dyed your hair with the L’Oréal Paris Excellence Creme, you can certainly enjoy your new color—but it isn’t all fun and games. With a shade change comes new responsibility. Colored hair requires special care, starting with switching to a cleansing and conditioning system that’s meant specifically for color-treated hair. Try the L’Oréal Paris Hair Expert Color Vibrancy Intensive Shampoo, the L’Oréal Paris Hair Expert Color Vibrancy Intensive Conditioner, and L’Oréal Paris Elvive Color Vibrancy Repair and Protect Balm. Gently massage the shampoo into wet hair, then rinse out. Follow up with the conditioner, leaving it on for 1-2 minutes before rinsing out. Once or twice a week, swap out the conditioner for the mask, leaving it on for 3-5 minutes before rinsing out. When it comes to washing your hair, turn down the dial in the shower and cleanse and condition in lukewarm water instead, as hot H20 can strip your hair of essential oils, which can leave your hair feeling drier and looking duller.
Step 4: Embrace Your Natural Texture
If you’re attached at the hip to your heat tools, give yourself (and your hair) a break after you’ve dyed it with the L’Oréal Paris Excellence Creme. Instead, let your natural texture shine through when you rock your updated hair color. To style, start by towel-drying your hair. Then, use the L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle Air Dry It Wave Swept Spray, L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle Air Dry It Ruffled Body Mousse, or L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle Air Dry It Undone Style Cream, depending on the look you’re going for. After working your product pick through your hair, allow it to finish air drying. No tricky tools or heat necessary!
Step 5: Keep Roots Covered
No matter how much you wish them away, sheer will power won’t keep your roots from reappearing. While we all know that visible growth is a sign to start dyeing your hair again, that isn’t always an immediate option. In-between L’Oréal Paris Excellence Creme colorings, when you spot unsightly growth, a root touch-up spray is your best bet. Spray the L’Oréal Paris Magic Root Cover Up color onto new growth and partly through the length of your hair to blend in the color—and there you go. No one has to be the wiser that you’re in serious need of a touch-up.
Step 6: Color, Again
When your roots have worn out their welcome, or you’re ready to put a different color to the test, it’s best to be prepared. Keep an extra box or two of your favorite L’Oréal Excellence Creme shade(s) on hand so you’re ready to go when the time comes.
