How to get a supermodel makeover (psst ... it's all about going platinum)
While we all might wish to look just like a model does, the reality is that most of us are not blessed with killer measurements, an iconic gap-toothed smile or a team of professionals to take our beauty game to the next level. Don't worry -- there's good news, too. Though models have an army of experts helping their ace ultra-blond hair that's tousled to perfection and the ultimate natural makeup look, it's actually not all that hard to achieve this style on your own. We swear! A hair-color refresh in über-trendy platinum, plus a few small tweaks to your makeup and wardrobe, is all it takes to cop the supermodel's swagger. Keep reading; you'll see what we mean.
Platinum hair reads bold and cool, but still has a playful edge. And because this color is known as more of a pure white blond than golden or yellow, it makes a more traditional haircut and long layers feel fresh -- less buttery-blond, girl-next-door -- and mysterious. Before you take the platinum plunge, there are a few things you need to know: First, it's easiest to achieve this hot white hue if your strands are already in the blond family, but also doable if your natural shade is a light brown. Second, you should attempt your at-home color with a box that boasts an ammonia-free formula -- it will help prevent your strands from going dull and flat and may even make them shinier. And third, you should switch your conditioner to one that contains purple dye to combat brassiness (there's one in every box of Féria platinum).
It's no secret that barely there, nude makeup is one of the year's biggest trends. After all, we all want that #nofilter finish. Plus, subtle makeup only accentuates the cool-girl vibe (going for bright-pink lips and faux lashes would make blond strands feel über-bombshell). Beyond dewy "naked" skin, all you need is a little intensity on the lids to complete the look. But don't go overboard with black -- a bit of smudged noir liner and a taupe- or brown-based eye shadow will give you just the right amount of smokiness. As for lips, while we still love a strong crimson pout, there's something even more powerful about wearing a matte, lip-toned hue. Together, these beauty must-haves strike the perfect balance of effort and irreverence.
Don't forget to complete the look with clothes that are equal parts edgy and unfussy. You can't go wrong with hipster basics like distressed denim, a black tee and a vintage leather moto jacket. Bonus points for anything off-the-shoulder that feels just a touch rebellious. All that's left now is to add pops of metal in the form of of-the-moment stacked rings.
Dare we say, #nailedit!
