Is your hair feeling less than healthy lately? Whether you’re experiencing an overall feeling of brittleness or your ends are starting to fray or even if you’ve just noticed more frizz than usual, the answer to healthier hair is simple: hydration. When hair is moisturized and hydrated, it’s reflected in how it looks and feels. Here, we’re sharing our best hydrating hair mask and walking you through your hydrating hair care routine.

Just like our bodies, our hair can become unhealthy when it lacks proper hydration. But of course, the symptoms of dehydration are different when it's happening to your hair and not your body. So, how can you tell when your strands are craving moisture? One of the first telltale signs of overly dry hair is how it feels. Is it brittle to the touch, rather than smooth and silky? If so, your locks need moisture, ASAP. Other signs of dried-out locks are split ends, flyaways, and frizz. If you’ve noticed any of these things happening with your hair, it’s time to introduce a hydrating hair mask—like the hair sheet mask we’re talking about below—to your routine.

So, you know your hair needs moisture—fast—but what’s the best way to show your locks the extra TLC they need? Using a hair mask can help target specific issues and hair concerns and also deeply condition strands in just a few minutes. Plus, they’re super fun to use—and we bet you could use a few minutes of extra self-care today. L’Oréal Paris offers a number of hair masks to choose from, but if you’re looking for a hair mask that will boost hydration, look no further than the L'Oréal Paris EverPure Deep Moisture Hair Sheet Mask. Formulated with aloe blossom, this hydrating mask comes in sheet form—yes, it’s a sheet mask for your hair! When you put it on during your shower, the steam will activate the mask’s nourishing cream formula. After just five minutes, the result will be shinier, healthier, and more hydrated locks. Here’s how to use it:

Step 1: Prep the mask

Before you even step into the shower, tear open the packet and unfold the sheet mask. Set it aside somewhere you can easily grab it during your shower, such as on your bathroom counter or a shelf in your shower.

Step 2: Wash your hair

Shampoo your hair (stay tuned for our best hydrating shampoo recommendations) and rinse as per usual.

Step 3: Apply your hydrating hair mask

Once you’ve rinsed all of the shampoo out of your hair, reach for your hair sheet mask. Unwrap it fully, then gather all of your hair at the top of your head. You can fasten it with a claw clip or bobby pin if needed.

Step 4: Seal the mask

Wrap the mask on top of your head so that it’s covering your hair fully, with the flap facing forward. Then, seal it tightly with the sticker.

Step 5: Coat your hair

Massage the cap gently to coat all your hair evenly with the product.

Step 6: Rinse

After five minutes, rinse out completely. You’re all done!

A hydrating hair mask is just one part of your complete hair care routine. If your strands are prone to becoming dry, you’ll want to make sure that the other steps in your regular regimen—such as shampoo, conditioner, and leave-in hair styling products—will also help keep your strands hydrated sufficiently. Use a shampoo and conditioner system that’s formulated to nourish hair, such as the L'Oréal Paris EverCreme Deep Nourish Shampoo and the L'Oréal Paris EverCreme Deep Nourish Conditioner. Infused with apricot oil to replenish brittle hair, this system will leave your locks feeling healthy and hydrated, without being weighed down. When you do use the hydrating hair mask—ideally once or twice per week—you can swap it out with your regular conditioner because you won’t need to condition again after you rinse out the mask.

To keep your strands hydrated properly, you’ll also need to use a leave-in hair treatment, such as the L'Oréal Paris Elvive Extraordinary Oil-In-Cream, which can be applied onto damp or dry hair. To apply, simply rub a dime-sized amount of cream between your fingers, then work through the lengths and ends of your hair.

Want to learn about other hair masks you can use on your hair? Maybe you don’t always need a hydrating mask—sometimes the situation calls for a mask for color-treated hair or a mask for oily roots. Next, check out the 7 Hair Masks Deserving of a Place in Your Hair Care Routine.
