One of the basic facts of life is that whatever you don’t have, you want. Which means if you were blessed with beautiful curls or waves, you could very well be dreaming of sleek, straight hair. While learning to love your natural texture is definitely an option we support, there’s no reason you can’t have it both ways. Your hair is what you make it, and that means finding the products that can give you what you want. Surprisingly, half the battle in achieving the look of super-straight hair is finding the right shampoo and conditioner combo—and the perfect hair styling products (and styling techniques) to pair with it. Keep reading to learn all about our hair straightening shampoo and conditioner system and how to use it.
While it’s true you can go ahead and straighten your hair after using any old hair care system, for your best (a.k.a. straightest) look, it’s a good idea to opt for a system that’s meant for creating straight styles. The L’Oréal Paris Hair Expert Smooth Intense Ultimate Straight line is a hair care system that when used together, helps relax each strand from root to tip for an extraordinary straight transformation. No flat, stiff, or dull results. The line consists of not only a straightening shampoo—the L’Oréal Paris Hair Expert Smooth Intense Ultimate Straight Shampoo—but the L’Oréal Paris Hair Expert Smooth Intense Ultimate Straight Conditioner, L’Oréal Paris Hair Expert Smooth Intense Ultimate Straight Pre-Conditioner, and L’Oréal Paris Hair Expert Smooth Intense Ultimate Straight Perfecting Balm.
Now that you know which products to add to your hair care routine to achieve smooth straight strands, it’s time to put them to good use. Follow our step-by-step tutorial below the next time you’re interested in styling your hair straight.
Step #1: Shampoo. Hop in the shower and get your hair wet, then reach for your straightening shampoo. Massage it into wet hair, lather, then rinse. One step down, only a few more to go!
Step #2: Pre-conditionerou’re probably all set to reach for your conditioner, but once a week, there’s a step in between you shouldn’t forget. We’re talking about pre-conditioner. Apply your pre-conditioner evenly throughout hair once a week, then leave on for one minute. Don’t rinse just yet!
Step #3: Conditioner. Once a minute has passed by since you applied your pre-conditioner, go ahead and reach for your hair straightening conditioner. Layer it over your pre-conditioner and leave it on for 1-3 minutes, then rinse out. You’re halfway there now!
Step #4: Perfecting balm. Before you reach for any heat tools, apply a dime-size amount of your perfecting balm to towel-dried hair, and spread it through from root to tip
Step #5: Blow-dryer. Allow hair to air dry halfway, then complete the job with a blow-dryer. With the help of a round brush, dry your hair. The blow-dryer and round brush combo will dry your hair, of course, but they’ll also help keep hair straight and smooth.
Step #6: Flat iron. Smoothing products and a blow-dryer will only take you so far—if you want tresses that truly look pin straight, you’ll need to use a flat iron to seal the deal. Separate your hair into sections using clips, then straighten piece by piece for hair that looks as straight as can be. If you aren’t confident in your straightening skills, check out our article, The Right Way to Use a Flat Iron, for more tips before wielding a heat tool.
Step #7: Hairspray. Finish off your look with a weather control hairspray, like the L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle LOCK IT Weather Control Hairspray. Hairspray can help keep your look in place as you go about your day.
