If there's one thing that can really ruin your manicure, it's a broken nail and for some people, broken nails happen a lot. If you feel that your nails are particularly prone to breaking or you just want to strengthen them, there are a few things you can do.
To help protect your nails from any potential damage that could be caused by regularly applying nail polish, make sure to use a base coat first. This will help nourish your nails and protect against stains. It will also keep any chemicals in the nail polish you use from getting onto your nails. So, if you haven't been using one up until now, you'd better start!
It's also important to use a nail polish remover which doesn't contain acetone. This can be harmful to your nails as it can have a drying effect.
For nails that feel a little rough around the edges or that are just in need of a little TLC, it can be really beneficial to soak them. You can use bath oil or even olive oil for this, both will help to nourish your cuticles and your nails. Afterwards, make sure you moisturize your hands, paying special attention to your nails.
Finally, make sure you only file in one direction. Going back and forth over the top of your nail can cause them to tear and/or break off.
After all that, just make sure you eat and sleep well, wear gloves when you do the washing up and avoid abrasive surfaces!
