Nothing is more glamorous than a head full of big, bouncy curls. In fact, we think the bigger, the better. But if you’re like most women, one of the biggest challenges is making those ringlets behave in the unruliest of conditions. Here, we’ll show you how to work with your hair’s natural texture to create perfectly-tame curls all day – even in the worst humidity. Plus, our featured curly-haired beauty Saraya shares her secret styling tips.
Saraya’s Curly Spirals
What do you love about your curls? What’s your biggest challenge?
“My hair has so much volume and is so thick. But, depending on the weather and the temperature, it can react a million different ways. If it is rainy outside, I can pretty much only put it up in a bun or it looks so frizzy and huge.”
Which products work best on your hair?
“My hair likes leave-in treatments or leave-in conditioners. I sometimes use an oil spray or sheen if it looks a little dry. But usually, creams work best.”
What’s your go-to technique for styling your curls?
“My go-to styling technique is what I do every time I wash it. I dry it and use a leave-in conditioner. Then, I comb through it with my fingers to separate the curls and let it air-dry, so that I have more defined curls.”
Step 1: Hydrate
To keep your curls frizz-free, hair needs tons of hydration. In the shower, apply a sulfate-free shampoo to wet hair and massage into a thick lather. Rinse with cold water. Next, use a sulfate-free conditioner to lock-in moisture and protect against weighdown.

Step 2: De-Frizz
While hair is still wet, apply 1 to 2 pumps of Hydracharge Leave-In Cream at your ends. This will help to further hydrate, soften and add shine to curls.
Step 3: Define Curls
Apply 1 to 2 pumps of Sculpt & Hold Cream Gel for curl definition that lasts all day. After you finish applying the cream-gel, use a microfiber towel (or t-shirt) to squeeze out any excess product.
Step 4: Diffuse the Situation
Let your hair dry au naturel (or dry your hair using a diffuser if you’re pressed for time). Flip your hair upside down and slowly lift hair at the ends (never scrunch!).

Our biggest tip for women with curly hair: “Do not manipulate your hair,” says Hair Expert Johnny Lavoy. “It only creates frizz.”
