Our Best Shampoo and Conditioner for Straight Hair

February 08, 2019

Do you use whichever shampoo and conditioner are on sale or happen to be in your shower? While we won’t argue with your money saving methods, we have to point out that it’s best to use hair care products that are meant for your hair type. For example, if you have straight hair, using a shampoo that’s meant for voluminous curls won’t do you any favors—and it definitely won’t turn your strands into spirals, if that’s what you were thinking. So, start doing your mane justice and use a shampoo and conditioner combo that suits your hair type. Sticking with our straight hair example for today, we’re sharing our best shampoo and conditioner for straight hair.

OUR BEST SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER FOR STRAIGHT HAIR

Straight hair looks best when it’s sleek, smooth, and frizz-free. The L’Oréal Paris Elvive Smooth Intense line is a hair care system that when used together, helps to soften and tame rough hair texture and reduce frizz. No flat, stiff, or dull results. The line consists of a trio of products that are perfect for straight hair: the L’Oréal Paris Elvive Smooth Intense Smoothing Shampoo, L’Oréal Paris Elvive Smooth Intense Smoothing Conditioner, and L’Oréal Paris Elvive Smooth Intense Frizz Taming Serum.

YOUR STRAIGHT HAIR CARE ROUTINE

Now that you know which products to add to your hair care routine for straight hair, it’s time to put them to good use.

Step #1: Grab your shampoo

Hop in the shower and get your hair wet, then reach for your straight hair shampoo. Massage it onto wet hair, lather, then rinse. One step down, only a few more to go!

Step #2: …And your conditioner

Once you’ve rinsed out your shampoo, it’s time to go ahead and reach for your conditioner. Apply it to the lengths of your hair and leave it on for one to two minutes, then rinse out. Be sure you’re washing with lukewarm water, warmer H2O could dry out your stunningly straight strands.

Step #3: Reach for your frizz serum

Before you reach for any heat tools, apply one to two pumps of frizz-taming serum to damp hair and distribute the product evenly throughout your mane from root to tip.

Step #4: Use a blow-dryer

Allow your hair to air dry halfway, then complete the job with a blow-dryer. With the help of a round brush, dry your hair. The blow-dryer and round brush combo will dry your hair, of course, but they’ll also help keep hair straight and smooth.

Editor’s tip: For extra straightening power and heat protection, apply the L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle SLEEK IT Frizz Vanisher Cream prior to blow-drying your locks.

Step #5: Straighten your hair

Smoothing products and a blow-dryer will only take you so far, even when you have naturally straight hair. If you want tresses that truly look pin straight, you’ll need to use a flat iron to seal the deal. Spritz on some heat protectant, separate your hair into sections using clips, then straighten piece by piece for hair that looks as straight as can be. If you aren’t confident in your straightening skills, check out our article, How to Use a Flat Iron, for more tips on wielding the heat tool.

Step #6: Seal your style

Finish off your look with a weather control hairspray, like the L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle LOCK IT Weather Control Hairspray, which has humidity resistant and anti-frizz properties. Hairspray can help keep your straight hair in place as you go about your day.

YOUR HEAT-FREE HAIR CARE ROUTINE FOR STRAIGHT HAIR

Did we lose you when we started talking about heat tools? If you prefer not to style your hair with heat, you’ll want to follow our routine through step three, then switch things up slightly. Use your straight hair shampoo and conditioner at night, and let your hair air dry while you sleep. Don’t throw your hair into a messy bun or braids while it dries—we love both of these hairstyles but they can leave your hair with waves and kinks. Instead, pull your hair back into a low ponytail with an ultra-soft scrunchie. When you wake up in the morning and let your hair down, your hair should be straight and smooth with no kinks in sight.
